Oral B and Sonicare are like Nikon and Canon or Ford and General Motors. Flip a coin. If you have tooth decay and/or periodontitis at present, an electric toothbrush will do very little to treat these existing conditions. It might help prevent new problems though. If you smoke, you should go to a good dentist regularly.
As part of the electronics, there is a built-in 2 minute timer and 30 second pacer. These work hand in hand and encourage you and me to brush for the dentist recommended time and evenly. These kick in from the moment you power the brush on. At 30 second intervals, there is a very slight pause in the brush head motion.
